September 2010Happy Fall!!First let me say, Happy Labor Day!! Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable day. Soon the weather will cool, the leaves will turn and it will be time for high school football, homecomings, bonfires and crafting Christmas Gifts. Fall is such a wonderful time of year. Everything is changing and anticipation and excitement grows as we head into the next season of our lives.
The Tent Sale, which has been a smashing success, will wrap up on the 7th with Club 50 Day. All of our Fall and Halloween has arrived and is on display. All but one of our Christmas trees are up and decorated for the season.
We’re off to Salt Lake City, Utah in a couple of weeks for a product and project sharing meeting with our independent craft retail partners from all over the country. We will be bringing back lists and lists of new items, projects and programs to share with you. We’ll learn about trends on the West Coast which will be coming our way. Speaking of trends, we are on the fun band wagon and have many styles and colors available. The latest “cool” item is bottle cap jewelry. We’ve got all types of finished caps for sale and are awaiting our order of blanks, bracelets and chokers to arrive any day. We’ll have the items you need to make those cool interchangeable bottle cap bracelets and necklaces. (I’m looking forward to making some for myself.) What's New at Mary Maxim?!
Here we go!! Starting in the Yarn Department we have the Bernat Breast Cancer Awareness Collection. Four different yarns in coordinating shades of pink for just $3.99 a ball plus free patterns! The sales of this collection benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Next is one of my personal favorites, Indie which is a hefty yarn getting 2 stitches to the inch on a US 17 needle. (I have a sweater almost done that took no time at all to do.) We’ve also recently received Babe and Snowdrops which are absolutely adorable baby yarns with some terrific pattern support. For fun we have Baby Blanket by Bernat which feels like chenielle and Katia Garden which is a nubby explosion of color.
Our Fall, Halloween and Christmas fabrics are out in abundance! Of course, we are off to Quilt Market in October---so I’ll give you the really big news after I return. That doesn’t mean, however, there aren’t exciting things happening in the Fabric Department right now. We have on display the most fabulous and easy to make table runner you’ve ever seen!!! It uses border print fabric and a triangular ruler. You can make them for Halloween, Christmas, or everyday—we have. But wait there’s more exciting news!!! Fleece and cotton fabrics are on their way for the University of Michigan and Michigan State!! Not just one or two styles but at least a dozen---how cool is that?!! We also have fleece coming in Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan (go Hurons) University. And ribbon in U of M and MSU by the spool. It’s so cool I can hardly stand it!!!! I can’t wait for it to get here so we can start making, hats, scarves, mittens, pillows, blankets, pillowcases, the list goes on and on and on! I’m on overload here kiddies, so that’s all the excitement you get for this time around. There’s just so much!!!

Shipments from the summer Craft & Hobby Association Show are arriving daily. We have over 200 new items from our catalog division including yarn, felt, plastic canvas, puzzles, pixel mosaics and much more.
Are you ready? We have some fabulous new stuff this month—it’s so exciting I can hardly stand it!!!
In Paper Crafts we have new paper collections arriving daily from Little Yellow Bicycle; SEI; Graphic 45 and Kaiser Craft. Embellishments from Prima; Doodlebug and Creative Imagination. Card kits will be arriving soon from We R Memory Keepers, as well as embossing stencils from Dreamweavers. The most exciting news however, is the collections of .99 cent stamps that have just hit the receiving dock today. There will four .99 cent collections in all. My favorite items however, are the Loralie rubber stamps. I can’t wait to start making cards with them using my colored pencils and Gamsol! They are so much fun!!!
