January 2012Happy New Year!Oh my goodness, where has the time gone?! I'm sure, like me, you are wiped out from the holidays. Inspiration came late to me for Christmas 2011, so I've decided to start working on my gifts for next year. You may think I'm crazy, but then I realized there are a ton of great gifts I can make in a short period of time during the cold months ahead and have everything done before Christmas sneaks up on me again.
COMMUNITY SERVICE - Our hat and mitten tree was a fabulous success!!!! We collected 277 hats, mittens, scarves and socks. You are awesome! All of the items were split between 6 local elementary schools. Thank you so much for all of your time and effort to help keep the kids warm.
Along with hats and mittens, we are still collecting handmade cards for our deployed troops. You'll find the collection box in the Paper Craft Department. I'm challenging our readers to make 5. Give a little of your time, a few supplies and lots of love to let 5 soldiers know they are not forgotten.
These are both great projects - I hope we can count on your support! As a little encouragement, please use this coupon for 25% off your card making and crochet or knitting supplies.
May your New Year be full of joy and happiness. And as always.....

Project of the MonthRedneck Wine Glass
|
For instance, there is the Redneck Wine Glass. They are so fast and easy, you can whip up a dozen in an hour or less. If you knit or crochet there are all the great scarf yarns to make fun, funky or even elegant scarves. Some of them you can put together in a couple of hours. You're really going to love this one! A scarf for the special man in your life made of Mary Maxim Mega. One ball, one half hour, one scarf!!!
This scarf uses size 35 needles and the seed stitch to create a soft, cozy, yet masculine scarf. I know, I know, you're thinking that's all well and good but what about all my friends at the office - there's 20 of them?! How about using Design Your Own glass ornaments and a little paint. Swirl the paint inside the ornaments, let them dry, put a ribbon on for a hanger and there you go. You could even add their names with paint or a marker. We have the perfect ornaments - 2" round, 1/2" thick clear glass ornaments; 4 pack just $1.97 a box!! You could even use Gallery Glass paint on the outside of the ornament to create a stained glass look.
Oh my goodness, don't forget the glass block projects!! Snowmen, lit "gift packages", "piggy" banks, the possibilities are limitless! Since I ran out of time this year to make things I was lucky enough to be able to rely on our great selection of jigsaw puzzles, pre-made jewelry,
paint by number kits, pretzel kits, hair feathers, sewing, crochet and knitting notions and other ready to go goodies. Our new catalog is about to launch so there will be even more great projects to choose from for my gift giving needs. Since I'm planning ahead now maybe I'll be able to do birthday presents as well. Homemade gifts are still the best in my book.
We have begun collecting for the 2012 Hat and Mitten Tree. Starting early allows us to take advantage of the long winter months and those after season sales. We want to keep those hats, mittens and scarves coming all year long so we can keep as many children warm as possible. Items may be dropped off at the Yarn Department desk anytime between now and December 5th 2012. Our goal for 2012 is 400 pieces. With the terrific response we had this year, I know we can do it!! Thank you all for your terrific effort and support!

As David Bowie would say, "ch ch ch changes". We are tearing it up and revamping our entire Yarn Department. New product, new displays, new layout. Our project library has been totally re-worked as well as our offerings of sock yarns and of course, novelty scarf yarns. In the coming month we will be working on our knitter's niche where you and your friends can come to relax and knit, crochet, cross stitch, or whatever. We'll have new yarns and needles laid out so you can experiment and have some fun as well. Our goal is to provide you with a great experience. We want you to relax and enjoy your visit while finding your items quickly and easily. We invite you to be among the first to make yourself at home in our comfy, cozy nest.
You know, this is such a great project and makes such a terrific, fast and fun gift we thought we'd run it again. Please be our guest and enjoy this free project idea and 25% off coupon for the Craft Department. The Project of the Month is the "Redneck Wine Glass". This project is so easy and makes a great gift for camping friends, wine lovers or anyone with a sense of humor. All it requires is a pint jar, a candle stick, some E6000 glue and a little time.
